CHIKKAMAGALUR: A lone tusker blocked the road on Charmadi Ghat for about half an hour on Thursday night. Passengers of a KSRTC bus, along with several other vehicles were left stranded till the tusker cleared the road.
Earlier in the evening, another tusker had blocked the road, resulting in a traffic jam for several kilometres. A car driver had a narrow escape when he sped past the elephant.
The ghat roads frequently see elephants, affecting vehicular movement. While there is the hills on one side, there are deep valleys on the other, leaving motorists with little option.
Locals and other road users have demanded the Forest Department to relocate the elephants and ensure smooth movement of traffic.
