Elephant electrocuted by illegal electric fence in Malavalli taluk

Villagers gathered at the spot where the elephant was electrocuted.

MANDYA: A wild elephant was electrocuted to death after it came in contact with an electric fence for which power had been drawn illegally, at Lingapatna village in Malavalli taluk on Monday.

Farmer Kenchappa had drawn power supply illegally for his electric fence which he had erected to protect his crops. The elephant, aged about five years, came to raid the crops, but was electrocuted.

Forest Department officials visited the spot and a case has been registered at the Halagur police station.
