GADAG: An elderly man was gored to death by a stray bull near the Banashankari temple in Gagad-Betageri on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Shankrappa Holi, aged about 70 and a resident of Shigli village in Lakshmeshwar taluk.

Shankrappa had gone to visit the German hospital in Betagari to avail treatment when he was attacked by some bulls. Passersby immediately called the 108 ambulance service, but the ambulance arrived one-and-half hours late, they alleged.

Locals staged an impromptu protest at the spot where the man was gored to death.

The angry locals staged a sit-in protest against the civic officials for failing to control the stray cattle menace and against the 108 ambulance authorities. They pointed out that several people had sustained injuries earlier while several vehicles were also damaged in attacks by stray bulls. They also demanded relief for the family of the deceased.
