BENGALURU: Work on the Ejipura flyover, which was started in 2017 by the then Siddaramaiah-led Congress government at a cost of a whopping Rs 203 crore with the aim of reducing traffic in the Koramangala-Indiranagar area, has finally come close to the moment of opening for public traffic.
The government has decided to complete the decades-long work by November and open it for vehicular traffic.The work that started in 2017 had been delayed for a whopping 9 years. The Ejipura flyover, which had become notorious as Bengaluru’s Stonehenge due to delay in work, change of contractors, and many controversies, is now getting ready for inauguration.
Minister Ramalinga Reddy has said that the approximately 2.5 km-long flyover is being prepared for inauguration in November. There was a time when it was a million dollar question as to when the work would be completed. The Ejipura flyover, which remained incomplete even after years, has now reached its final stage.
“Most of the work is completed and it will be opened to traffic in November. When the previous Congress government was in power, the foundation was laid and during the time of the coalition government, 32 per cent of the work was done. But when the BJP came to power, work came to a standstill for four years. When we came back to power, we called for tenders thrice. It takes at least 4-5 months for tender process each time. Now, the contractor is carrying out the work at a good pace.
For nine years, vehicle users were fed up with daily traffic. Now, the Ejipura flyover work is going to be inaugurated in November, and there is hope that the traffic problem that had haunted for years between Ejipura main road, Koramangala, Sony World Junction, Indiranagar and Kendriya Sadan will be resolved.
In all, more than Rs 200 crore has been spent on the Ejipura flyover, and if it is opened for traffic in November, the traffic problem in this area will be resolved. But although many deadlines have passed, the work is still ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether it will be opened for vehicular traffic at least by this November.
