Eating out to cost more as hotels in Bengaluru raise prices by 15-20 per cent

BENGALURU: The prices of food items in hotels will rise by 15-20 per cent after the hike in prices of milk, ghee and other commodities. In some hotels, new price lists have already been displayed and the rates are effective from December 1.

The price of cooking gas has also increased by Rs 200. The spike in the price of groceries and the shortage of workers have forced hoteliers to increase the prices of food items. The prices rice bhath has increased from Rs 30 to Rs 35-40, dosa from Rs 30 to Rs 40, half rice from Rs 25 to Rs 30, chapathi from Rs 20 to Rs 30, puliogare from Rs 30 to Rs 40 among other dishes.

“We have increased the prices of food items due to the rise in commodity prices. Because the price of milk and cooking gas cannot be reduced, we cannot reduce the price of food items. We have increased the price by 15-20 per cent”, said Chandrashekhar Hebbar, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Hotels and Restaurants Association.
