MANGALURU: High drama prevailed at a hotel at Beeri near the Karnataka-Kerala border on Friday where a wedding ceremony was taking place when a woman landed there along with the police alleging that the groom had sexually exploited her on the promise of marriage and was getting married to someone else.
Akshay S (28), a resident of Kozhikode in Kerala, was getting married to a girl from Mangaluru at Hotel Parivar Residency on Sankolige Road in Someshwara. At this time, the woman, who hails from Mysuru, arrived at the wedding venue along with the Ullal police alleging that Akshay had cheated her and pointed out that a case had already been registered against him in Kozhikode.
The woman claimed that they had met on a matrimonial website about oe-and-half years ago and that he had physical relations with her after promising to marry her. She also said a case of sexual assault had been registered against Akshay in Kozhikode on December 26 and that his anticipatory bail application had been rejected by a court.
Even as the drama was unfolding outside the hotel, the groom tied the mangalasutra to the bride and made good his escape from the venue claiming ill health. His relatives said Akshay was suffering from kidney stones and added that he had to be taken to hospital.
Speaking to Public TV, the jilted woman said, “In 2022, he took me to Calicut saying that we would get married and attempted to rape me. He even forced me to undergo an abortion and now he is marrying someone else. He is a drug addict has tortured me by keeping me locked up for eight days. He has also taken more than Rs 33 lakh from me, but I have records for Rs 19.98 lakh. Apart from this, he also took 117 gm of gold from me. He has abused me physically and mentally and I have all records”.
“I tried to convince the girl’s family, but they never listened to me. He’s a fraud and has cheated many girls. The Kerala police have not acted against him and arrested him. Action should be taken against all those involved”, she demanded.
