Dialogue in Marathi movie sparks fresh controversy, KRV calls for statewide ban

BELAGAVI: In a fresh twist to the language row between Karnataka and Maharashtra, a scene from the Marathi movie ‘Boyz 3’, which released on Friday, has sparked a controversy over disrespect to Kannada and the Karnataka police.

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) Narayana Gowda faction has called for ban on the movie in Belagavi and other parts of the state too. Vedike leaders met Belagavi Police Commissioner Dr Boralingaiah on Friday and submitted a memorandum.

In the movie trailer, a couple is shown in a Belagavi police station. When the police officer says the conversation can be only in Kannada or English, the male character says, “If you have pride in Kannada, we too have pride in Marathi language. If we don’t show our love for Marathi in Belagavi, where else will we do it?”

The clip is reportedly being shared widely on social media by Marathi supporters.

Terming this as an insult to Kannada and the Karnataka police, the Kannada Rakshana Vedike has called for a ban on the movie in the state.
