Deputy CM DK Shivakumar: Channagiri police station attackers won’t be spared

BENGALURU: Days after a mob attacked the Channagiri police station in Davanagere district, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday said that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators of the attack.

Speaking to reporters at the KPCC Bharat Jodo office, he said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already ordered a CID investigation into the attack on the Channagiri police station. The investigation is on and the culprits will be brought to book at any cost”.

“Congress party treats people of all sects equally, but no one can take the law into their own hands. The government is committed to punish the culprits, he said.”

This comes after a mob vandalised the Channagiri police station and damaged several vehicles on May 24. At least 11 police personnel were injured in the incident. Meanwhile, the police have arrested 25 people in connection with a the mob attack.

The accused have been booked under sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 307 (Attempt to murder) of IPC, and the suspects have been remanded in judicial custody.

Following the mob attack, 11 police personnel were injured and a few police vehicles were damaged, five teams were formed to nab the accused,” said an official, adding that the home minister has ordered a CID probe into the case.

Asked about the progress of the SIT probe in Prajwal Revanna’s case, he said, “I would not like to comment on this. The state government can take any action within the country, but the Centre has to be more proactive in cases where the accused is abroad. The Home Minister is overseeing the case”.

Asked if he was visiting New Delhi to finalise the Legislative Council candidates, he replied in the affirmative. (ANI)
