KOLAR: A dead lizard was found in the curd raita served with biryani at a famous non-vegetarian hotel here on Monday night. A customer who consumed the biryani has been hospitalised following the incident.

The dead, cooked lizard was found after half the biryani, served at BGT Hotel located on Coronation Road in Bangarapet town, had been eaten. Lalitha, a resident of Nerlekere who ate the biryani, has admitted to hospital.

The lizard found in the onion-cucumber raita served with the biryani. Though it was immediately brought to the attention of the BGT hotel owners, they gave another biryani and pacified saying nothing would happen.

Lalitha, who had eaten the biryani, later developed vomiting and diarrhea and was admitted to hospital. It is said that several others who were eating biryani left it and went away. Currently, the woman and one other person have been admitted to hospital.

Biryani lovers and the general public have demanded an investigation by the Food Safety Department and Health Department officials. On Wednesday, health and corporation officials inspected the hotel and issued notice after collecting food samples which will be sent for testing.
