BENGALURU: Days after the Brigae Road cave-in, one more such incident occurred near the Sapthagiri Kalyana Mantapa in Mahalakshmi Layout on Tuesday.

Road caved-in at Mahalakshmi Layout on Tuesday.

The road caved in where a BWSSB pipeline passes underneath and usually sees movement of heavy vehicles. As a result of the road cave-in, the BWSSB pipeline was damaged. Shockingly, the road collapsed within two days of being repaved. A lorry had got stuck in the gaping hole and had leaned dangerously toward a transformer nearby. If it had come in contact even slightly with the transformer, the consequences could have been more disastrous.

Mahalakshmi Layout Constituency MLA Gopalaiah visited the caved-in road.

After the cave-in, BWSSB officials, including Executive Engineer Harinath inspected the spot. Mahalakshmi Layout constituency MLA and Minister K Gopalaiah, who also visited the spot, gave a dressing down to the officials for not working properly and responding to the problems of citizens. The BWSSB workers repaired the damaged water pipeline and closed the caved-in road.

Goapalaiah, MLA of the Mahalakshmi Layout constituency.

“There was no leakage when they repaved the road four days ago. But leakage seems to have developed later and the road caved in when the lorry was passing through. The pipe was installed 1980s and was broken, leading to water leakage. After I got the information, I instructed the BWSSB officials to repair it. This is not due to poor quality of road construction. I checked the issue personally and the road will be repaved”, said Gopalaiah, MLA of the Mahalakshmi Layout constituency.
