DHARWAD: Four days after a four-year-old boy died due to burns are paint thinner kept in a container in their house caught fire, the father, who had tried to save the child, also died in hospital on Tuesday without responding to treatment.
Chandrakanth Mashyal had been undergoing treatment at the KIMS hospital in Hubballi. He had suffered 60 per cent burns in an attempt to save his son Agastya. The boy died due to burns after a bottle of paint thinner kept near a burning lamp in the house caught fire at Santosh Nagar in Kelageri in Dharwad last Saturday night.
The lamp had been lit for warmth and the bottle of paint thinner was kept close by. Agastya, who was playing in the house, toppled the bottle of thinner which immediately caught fire. Even as the family members screamed in shock, Agastya had suffered severe burns.
