Dasara elephant Gopalaswamy dies after fight with another tusker

Dasara elephant Gopalaswamy being weighed on a weigh bridge when he was brought for the recent Dasara celebrations.

MYSURU: A Dasara elephant, named Gopalaswamy (39), died after fighting with another tusker at Mathigodu Elephant Camp in Hunsur on Wednesday.

Gopalaswamy got into a fight with another elephant, Ayyappa, who was recently captured from the forest. The jumbo sustained grievous injuries in the fight and died.

The elephant was known for its calm behaviour during the Mysuru Dasara Jamboo Savari. The elephant was seen carrying the wooden howdah during the recently concluded Dasara and had attracted many spectators.
