Daivaradhane in coastal Karnataka: How this village fought off ill omens

MANGALURU: Residents of Perne village in Bantwal taluk witnessed a series of deaths of loved ones, accidents, and also the deaths of cobras. After a series of negative incidents, the villagers decided to perform the Ashtamangala deva prasnam, which revealed that an old Daivasthana in the village had become dilapidated and had got buried. It also revealed the presence of daivas.

The villagers went to the designated place and excavated some artefacts related to the Daivas. Once they began to build a new Daivasthana, the villagers claimed that all the problems they had faced previously disappeared and they started to live a peaceful life.

“Earlier, within six months, around 13–14 cobras died one after the other. After conducting some rituals, we decided to do an Ashtamangala Prasnam to find a solution to all the problems faced by the villagers. Ashtamangala Prasnam gives accurate information about any incident and is part of astrology,”said Prasanna, a resident of Perne village.

“During the questioning, it was found out that around 500 years ago, four important daivas were worshipped and they are now destroyed and buried. Even though the bhandaradamane was destroyed, all the artefacts were found during excavation. Even the nagabana related to the daivasthana has been restored and we have completed all religious rituals. We have found all the artefacts, ” he added.

” After we found the artefacts related to the Daivasthana, we formed 5–6 committees to develop the place. Almost 80 per cent of the work has been completed now. By next year, we will conduct ‘Brahma kalasha’ and also organise Bhoothakola rituals. Once we decided to conduct the Ashtamangala prasnam, there were no accidents around here on the highway, “said Kiran, president of the Daivasthana committee.
