D K Suresh’s nomination rejected after Shivakumar declared official candidate

RAMANAGARA: The returning officer for Kanakapura Assembly constituency has rejected the nomination papers of Congress leader D K Suresh, who is the brother of KPCC president D K Shivakumar.

During scrutiny of nominations on Friday, Shivakumar’s papers were found to be in order and were accepted. The returning officer rejected Suresh’s nomination papers as Shivakumar is the official candidate and Suresh had also filed his papers as a Congress candidate.

Wary that Shivakumar’s nomination from Kanakapura may be rejected over discrepancies over his assets and his declaration, his brother and Bangalore Rural MP D K Suresh filed his nomination on Thursday for the May 10 Assembly polls.

Congress MP D K Suresh also filed his nomination from the Kanakapura Assembly segment on Thursday.

Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination from Kanakapura, D K Suresh said, “I filed the nomination on the instruction of the party president and the AICC leaders. There is talk about some conspiracies being hatched and, as a precautionary measure, I have filed my nomination. The BJP has targeted D K Shivakumar and they have said so themselves because they know that they don’t have the support of the electorate and the people of Kanakapura will not let their tricks work”.

After Shivakumar filed his nomination, his election affidavit had been downloaded 5,000 times, giving rise to speculation. However, during scrutiny of nominations on Friday, Shivakumar’s nomination papers for the Kanakapura Assembly segment were found to be in order were accepted by the returning officer.
