BENGALURU: With the Congress poised to form the next government in the state, even as the final results are trickling in, senior Congress leaders got into a huddle at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in the city on Saturday evening.

Party general secretary K C Venugopal described the victory is a “milestone” for the 2024 Lok Sabha election and win for the poor of Karnataka. State in-charge general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and Siddaramaiah were also present.

Karnataka state Congress president D K Shivakumar, who also arrived there, refused to reveal how he came up with the figure of 141 seats while the party has gained 136 seats. “I cannot reveal my political secrets. I have my own calculations about political and social engineering. We have got a few seats less, I’ll talk later”, he said.

His brother and MP D K Suresh the party president had indicated about holding a Congress legislature party meeting. “I am the first person to hope that Shivakumar will be made Chief Minister”, he said.

All the senior leader later left for the KPCC office from Kharge’s residence.
