CHIKKAMAGALUR: A couple, along with a retired nurse, were arrested for selling their two-day-old child for Rs 1 lakh, at Haravari village in NR Pura taluk. The rescued infant has been handed over to the child welfare committee by the NR Pura police.
Ratna (45) and her husband Sadananda had sold the infant to Raghavendra of Karkala. He is the brother of Kusuma who retired as a nurse at the Koppa taluk hospital.
Ratna and Sadananda have three children and are suspected to have sold two of the children. The NR Pura police have filed a case for child trafficking and are investigating further.
