BALLARI: A couple got married by exchanging garlands in a car, but it was followed by much drama and the girl was finally taken to the Mahila Santwana Kendra by the police where she stayed overnight on Tuesday. The girl’s parents had opposed the marriage as both families belong to different castes.

The girl’s parents tried to take her away in a car, but she refused to get in.

Shivaprasad of Tekkalakote in Ballari district and Amrutha of Koppal got married by exchanging garlands in a car. However, after Amrutha’s parents opposed the marriage, she was taken to the Shantidham Santwana Kendra in Ballari as she kept changing her statement that she wanted to go with her parents and also her ‘husband’.

High drama also prevailed outside teh Santwana Kendra when the girl’s parents attempted to take her away in a car. Shivaprasad then blocked the car and prevent Amrutha’s parents from taking her away. He also stayed put outside the Santwana Kendra all through the night.

It is said that the boy belongs to a lower caste and hence the girl’s parents had objected to the marriage.
