BENGALURU: A couple has been accused of duping scores of people to the tune of crores of rupees after promising them jobs in the Indian Railways.
The accused couple are Ramesh and Nalina, residents of Chikkabanavara. They allegedly collect lakhs from each aspirant and when they asked for their money to be returned, Nalina would create a scene stating that her husband had died.
A photo of Nalina’s husband is going viral. When the people threatened her, she told them that there was no use in filing complaints with the police against them as her husband was no more.
A victim has also recorded a video of Ramesh taking money from people. Several cheating cases were lodged in Madanayakanahalli and some other police stations in Bengaluru against the couple.
A woman, who got cheated by the couple, shedding tears, said, “My son came across their son Akash asked them to find him any job and they demanded money for it. My husband gave the money though I did not agree. My son went to ask for money, but he was found dead on the railway track. I did know what happened, whether they killed him for money. Now, I have lost my son. They threatened me when I asked them to return the money and they sought time. I filed a complaint, but no action has been taken. Instead, the couple threatened to file a complaint against us. The police are allegedly supporting them. Recently, we shifted to Bengaluru after looking for them for the last two years. I demand the police arrest the couple and their son immediately”.
“Ramesh and his son showed us their ID cards and asked for Rs 2 lakh as initial payment. They said the remaining Rs 4 lakh can be paid after the joining letter is issued. When we went to the railway offices at Majestic, we were told the letter was fake. When we demanded our money back, the couple sought six months time, but then changed their residence. Later, they gave us bogus cheques. Later, we came to know they have been arrested by the Shankarpuram police”, said another victim who works as a cab driver.
“They promised us government job under MP/MLA quota and said that if there are 5-10 people together, we would get the jobs sooner. They said we could initially pay Rs 1-2 lakh and the remainder later. Now, we neither have jobs nor money. They are even threatening to file complaints against us”, said another victim.
