BENGALURU: Malleswaran is one of the oldest and well-known areas in the City, but it’s not bereft of water problems. Contaminated water is being supplied to some houses in Malleswaram.
Over 50 households on 13th Cross, Vyalikaval, are facing irregular water supply and are forced to use the same contaminated water. The drinking water pipeline was damaged during the installation of the gas pipeline, and there has been no supply of clean water for three months.
Residents complain they get contaminated water with green algae and black impurities, making it unfit for consumption. Despite complaints to the BWSSB, the issue persists, raising health concerns. The residents are requesting the authorities concerned take up some measures to supply clean water. If not, people may face health issues, they said.
A resident, Rekha, said there are more than 100 houses in the area. “We’ve been facing this issue for two-three months. The water is unfit for drinking and complaints have been given to BWSSB. Water is contaminated and turned black, and some sort of smell comes in it. We have cleaned the water tank two times, but still we are getting the same polluted water. We are very upset with the water issue. Some residents had diarrhoea. We have given a complaint, but are waiting for action”.
Another woman said , “We could see some toxic foam in the water. It is unfit to drink or for any other use. Most of the time, we do not use it or spill outside”.
Another resident, Venkatappa, said, “We have given several complaints. The Water Board blames the gas pipeline. Now they have found out the fault but not rectified it. We have been facing problems for a long time. Now one agency is blaming another. Whichever department it comes from, they should take the responsibility in dealing with people and rectify the problem in the beginning itself.”
A water board official, Lakshminarasimha, assured, “We’re working to resolve the issue. We’ve been supplying water through tankers. The problem occurred due to gas pipeline installation and we’ll rectify it soon.”
