BENGALURU: A gang of youths, who were involved in theft and dacoity cases, brutally attacked a police constable when he went to question them, at Raghavendra Circle, in Anekal, where they had parked their two-wheelers in the middle of the road, on Thursday evening. It is said that the gang was under the influence of drugs.

Constable H Ranganath, who spotted the gang moving around in an intoxicated state, approached the gang to question them and asked them to move the vehicles to the side of the road. The youths then abused him in foul language and escaped towards a Nilgiri grove on Dinnur road.

Bengaluru Rural Additional SP M L Purushotham checked on constable Ranganath in hospital.

When the constable gave a chase, rowdy Varun alias Kencha, who is involved in several cases, and Danny, a drug addict, brutally attacked him, injuring him in his private parts and biting other parts of the body. The gang of four then escaped from there on two two-wheelers, which was caught on CCTV camera. Ranganath then called his colleagues at the police station who then shifted him to hospital.
