HAVERI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday continued his attack on the Congress stating that it perpetuated the ‘biggest fraud in history’ with its ‘garibi hatao’ slogan for over 50 years.

Addressing an election rally in Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s home district, with the CM, Parliament member Shivakumar Udasi and candidates of 10 Assembly segments on stage, Modi said all the Congress lies have been blown away, while pointing to the massive crowd that had gathered.

“People know about the appeasement politics of the Congress. Whether it is Lingayats or OBCs, they are angry about the abuses hurled at me and they have decided to vote the BJP with full majority”, he said.

“The Congress ruled for many years in the country and also in the state, but did not do much work. The BJP’s double engine government did more in 3.5 years than what the Congress did in all the years they were in power. Haveri too also benefited from development taken up by the BJP government”, he noted.

Many BJP workers had turned up with Bajrang Dal flags at the rally.

Further, the PM said, “The Congress could have taken up development, but they didn’t. Congress means total corruption, Congress means scams of thousands of crores, it means 85 per cent commission and looting all the money, succumbing to terrorists. The party’s first priority is appeasement and votebank politics. They cheated farmers also”, he said, referring to the urea scam and said that the BJP government works with the welfare of farmers in mind.

Taking on the Congress over it election guarantees, the PM said, “Before elections, they announce guarantees and later on, they simply say committees have been set up”, giving the example of the Himachal Pradesh government. Before the election in that state, the Congress promised 300 units free electricity, but hike tariffs later on”, he said.

Earlier, the PM also addressed a rally in Badami.

Earlier in the afternoon, addressing a rally in Badami, Modi targeted Congress leader Siddaramaiah, who is the incumbent MLA from that constituency, and pointed out that no development work has been undertaken.

“The BJP government provided roads, streetlights and other basic facilities and that is why Siddaramaiah dumped you and went to another constituency. If he comes here, you should question him”, he told the crowd.
