TUMAKURU: Former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader G Parameshwara, accompanied by his wife, cast his vote at a polling booth at Siddharth Nagar in Tumakuru on Wednesday.

Siddalinga Swami of the influential Lingayat Siddaganga mutt on Wednesday also cast his vote at a polling booth in Tumakuru for he Assembly election.

The Lingayat and Vokkaliga voters will play a major factor in the elections. Lingayats comprise 17 per cent of the population and Vokkaligas 11 per cent.

Earlier, Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also cast their vote in Shikaripura and Shiggaon, respectively.

Voting is currently under way for 224 Assembly constituencies in Karnataka with 2,615 candidates in the fray. The polling for the Karnataka Assembly elections began at 7 am amid tight security and will continue till 6 pm. A total of 42,48,028 new voters have been registered to vote for the assembly elections.
