BENGALURU: The Congress in the state may be looking to woo women voters with schemes aimed at them, ahead of the Assembly election.

After announcing 200 units of free power for all households under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, the party announced the Gruha Lakshmi scheme on Monday in the presence of AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the ‘Na Nayaki’ women’s convention held at Palace Grounds. The scheme promises Rs 2,000 every month to every woman head of a household.

Priyanka Gandhi has reportedly told the state leadership to draw up women-centric plans and promised that she will visit the state for campaigning. She also told them that it was the Congress which started Stree Shakti groups in Karnataka, and pointed out that BJP was benefitting from it.

Stating that such failures should not happen, Priyanka said the benefits of the Congress schemes should directly reach the people as long as its government is in power. She also advised that grand schemes should be drawn up for women and announced in the party manifesto.

Priyanka said the party should come up with more number of schemes that will attract voters and suggested that the state leadership make use of women power. She also promised to campaign in the state wherever the state leaders think it necessary.
