BENGALURU: After the fresh order of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC), there seems to be mixed opinions on going ahead with the Karnataka bandh on August 13. Before the order, some organisations had withdrawn support for the bandh call while some extended only moral support. After the latest CWRC order, organisations are confused about what to do next.
A meeting of some pro-Kannada organisations on this is scheduled on Wednesday. Autorickshaw unions will take the next decision after the meeting of the pro-Kannada organisations. They have decided to take a decision on supporting the bandh based on the call for unity from Kannada organisations.

Meanwhile, Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj has refused to back down on the Karnataka bandh call. In the backdrop of the bandh, a protest will be held at Majestic Kempegowda Bus Stand on Wednesday as a prelude, he said. Vatal Nagaraj insisted, “We will definitely hold the Karnataka bandh”. He appealed that on the day of the bandh, everyone should come out onto the streets and support the protest.

In the light of the latest CWRC order it remains to be seen what stand organisations that announced withdrawal from the bandh will take now. Most organisations had decided that the bandh was not needed. On the other hand, Vatal Nagaraj has not backed out from organising the bandh. It is expected that Karnataka Rakshana Vedike’s Praveen Shetty, and Sa Ra Govindu, will take a final decision at Wednesday’ meeting.
Pro-Kannada organisations had called for a Karnataka Bandh on August 13 for the Cauvery issue. But after that, there was rain in the Cauvery basin and the government also released some water. Some organisations including hotels and taxi drivers’ associations had announced only moral support.
