Commerce student dies in accident while returning home after celebrating birthday

CHIKKABALLAPUR: A college student, who was out to celebrate her birthday, died after the cab she was travelling in crashed into retaining wall of a flyover near Nagarjuna College here on Monday night.

Rakshitha Kalyan, a resident of Honnenahalli in the taluk, was a student of Nitte Meenakshi College in Bengaluru. She celebrated her birthday in Bengaluru with her friends and was returning home in a cab when the accident occurred.

The spot where the cab had crashed into the retaining wall of the flyover; (right) the police had placed a temporary barricade after the accident.

A seriously injured Rakshita and the cab driver were rushed to a privatae hospital in Chikkaballapur, but she did not survive. The cab driver is undergoing treatment. The Nandi Giridhama police have registered a case.

College prinicipal Raghavendra said Rakshita was a BCom student. She was a good student and the accident has shocked us. She was to write her exams from Wednesday. She hadn’t attended college on Monday. We condole the death and pray that the family gets the strength to bear with the loss”.

Venkatesh, a neighbour of Rakshita’s family, said many accidents have occurred at the spot where the accident occurred. “They should widen the flyover, post a policeman or install a traffic signal”.
