MYSURU: A day ahead of the launch of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in Mysuru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar and Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, accompanied by cabinet colleague H C Mahadevappa, offered thanksgiving prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari atop Chamundi Hills.
On May 9, the CM and Deputy CM had visited the temple and had offered prayers with the party’s guarantee card on the five poll promises. With the Congress in power now, the duo offered thanksgiving prayers today while presenting silk sarees, flowere and fruits to the goddess along with Rs 2,000 each. They also broke coconuts outside the temple.
Later, speaking to media persons outside the temple, the CM said the government implemented four of the five guarantees within 100 days of coming to power and the fifth guarantee will be launched tomorrow. “About Rs 36,000 crore will be spent annnually on the Gruha Lakshmi scheme and no scheme on such a scale has been implemented anywhere in the country. Even though the PM himself criticised us saying that the state will go bankrupt, we have implemented the poll promises”, he said.
The CM also announced that well-known music composer and songwriter Hamsalekha will inaugurate the Dasara celebration this year. Reacting to the announcement in Bengaluru, Hamsalekha thanked both the CM and the Deputy CM on behalf of all the artistes.
Deputy CM Shivakumar, who also spoke, said, “We had placed the guarantee card at the Chamundi temple and prayed for strength to implement them and hence today’s thanksgiving prayers. We had earlier planned to launch the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in Belagavi, but now we will launch it in Mysuru. The launch event will be screened live at 12,600 places across the state”.
