DAVANAGERE: In a inhuman act, a worker at a choultry was forced to clean a blocked drain by the manager on Mahila Samaj Road here. The worker got out of the drain after some locals intervened.

The choultry manager, instead of requisitioning a jetting machine from the civic body, had allegedly directed the choultry worker to get into the drain and clear the blockage. A foul smell pervaded the area around the choultry due to the blockage.

Activists against manual scavenging descended on the choultry and advised the worker to get out of the drain. After a video of the incident went viral, civic body officials rused to the spot where they were confronted by the activists.
