CHAMARAJANAGAR: Children of a particular community in Kuratti Hosur village have been detected to be suffering from a rare skin disease and, according to health officials, it can cause death and cannot be completely cured.

Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag and visited the village and assured the affected families of providing treatment. A team of doctors led by district leprosy eradication officer Dr Chandrashekar also visited the village and examined the affected children.

The skin disease is said to be a genetic disorder caused due to marriages among blood relatives and has been seen in a particular community. The affected children have been advised to clothe themselves fully and not allow any part of the skin to be exposed to the Sun.

Health officials, who have taken up further investigation, suggested that marriages among blood relatives should be stopped. District Health Officer (DHO) Vishweshwaraiah said the only way to protect oneself from contracting the disease is to stop the practice of marriages within the same bloodline.
