BENGALURU: In a shocking case, children and women were deployed by a BBMP contractor to clear silt from storm water drains in Bommanahalli area even while the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials chose to turn a blind eye. Incidentally, the BBMP office is close to where the women and children were working.

The incident was reported on Bilal Masjid Road, 6th Cross, Madina Nagar, Hongasandra, Ward No. 189 and none of the workers were even provided any safety gear like gloves, masks or boots.

The workers were not provided any safety gear.

Locals alleged that the BBMP, instead of using machinery to get the work done, was employing child labour and demanded action against the authorities concerned.
