BENGALURU: The Rajarajeshwari Nagar police have filed a chargesheet against yoga guru Niranjana Murthy, who had been arrested in a case of sexual harassment of a minor girl. After completing the investigation, the police submitted the chargesheet before the POCSO Special Court.
Niranjana Murthy was running a yoga centre in Rajarajeshwari Nagar where the minor girl attended classes. He promised her that he would take her to the international level in yoga, bring her name and that she could get a government job, and then sexually assaulted the minor.
Based on the girl’s complaint, the police arrested Niranjana Murthy. During the investigation, evidence of rape of the minor was obtained. Some videos and photographs were also seized.
It also emerged that he had had sexual relations with several women. The police contacted many of those women, but they declined to give statements. Except for the one minor, the others refused to lodge complaints.
Consequently, the investigation proceeded on the basis of the lone complainant’s statement, and a chargesheet was filed. The forensic science laboratory report is still awaited.
