CHAMARAJANAGAR: A tense atmosphere prevailed at the district deputy commissioner’s office here after an email threatened that pipe bombs had been planted and a blast would occur at 3 pm. The email also demanding that cases against two people be dropped. Following the threat mail, the building was evacuated and a holiday declared for the staff.

As soon as the email was received, Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag alerted Police Superintendent B T Kavitha and the higher-ups in Bengaluru. The bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), along with the sniffer dog squad conducted thorough checks through all the three floors of the building, but found nothing.

Police Superintendent Kavitha said, “The email threatened about a blast at 3 pm following which the building was evacuated and all precautionary measures were taken. Not only the DC’s office, but other buildings nearby were also checked but nothing was found as described in the email. We are investigating the case from all angles and police security will be provided at the DC’s for now”.

Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag said, “The email threatened of a blast, but there is no cause for tension. A complaint has been lodged with the CEN police and the entire building was searched. As a precautionary measure, the building was evacuated”.
