BENGALURU: A used car showroom in the city is in hot water after trying to sell a MUV with fake number plates, originally registered to and MLC, after the personal assistant of the lawmaker lodged a complaint with the High Grounds police.
Janata Dal (Secular) MLC S L Bhojegowda’s personal assistant Madesh happened to spot a Toyota Innova, bearing the number KA 18 Z 5977 for sale in front of iCars Studio on Queen’s Road, right next to the KPCC office. Surprised, he called the MLC and told him that the car was put up for sale at a used car showroom, but Bhojegowda told him that the car was very much in front of his house.
After confirming that it was not for sale, Madesh inquired with the used car showroom staff, but they only gave evasive answers. Suspecting that something was amiss, he lodged a complaint with the High Grounds police station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) R Srinivas Gowda said, “After receiving the complaint, we took up detailed investigation and taken two people in to custody. We are investigating how many more people are involved in selling cars with fake registration plates and we will arrest them soon. We are checking all the high-end cars at the used car showroom and if the owner is involved, we will arrest him too.”.
The police have registered an FIR based on his complaint and arrested one Imran and another person and are questioning them. They are also looking into whether other cars were sold with fake number plates of prominent individuals.
