BENGALURU: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has issued notices to 390 people for discharging waste water into the underground drainage (UGD) illegally. The BWSSB officials conducted inspection of several buildings under their jurisdiction since last week.

According to sources, about 446 buildings of the 526 building inspected had violated the rules. Notices were issued to 339 buildings and action will be taken against those who are illegally releasing waste water into UGDs and rainwater canals, the BWSSB officials warned.

The waste water was being discharged into the drainage without getting a connection from the BWSSB. Also, rainwater is being released into canals in some parts of the area. The department has decided to stop illegal connections and has set May 7 as the last date to get authorised sewerage connections.
