BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had spent crores on asphalting road, but the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has dug up the roads within a week of asphalting. It is also digging up newly laid roads in many parts of the city and now the Palike planning to take action against the BWSSB.
The BBMP and the Water Board seem to be working at cross-purposes due to a lack of communication. There have been numerous instances where BWSSB has spoilt newly laid roads to repair sewage lines or to clear blocks in sewer chambers. Citizens have expressed outrage at BWSSB for its incomplete work.
The BBMP has already said that roads should not be dug and that it will take action if a road is dug for the installation of cables without permission from the Palike. However, just a week ago, the BBMP asphalted the road near Richmond Circle and BWSSB created problems by digging it up within days.
A local resident claimed a two-wheeler rider fell on the road here because of the incomplete work and irresponsbility of BWSSB. “The Palike asphalted the road a week ago, and they dug up the same road for some laid cables and left without repairing. This is very dangerous for motorists and the Palike should take immediate action”, he said.
Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said pointing fingers at other agencies won’t help. “We are going to set a deadline for every agency to complete their work. They should finish their work within that time. To my knowledge, the BWSSB workers dug the road for some repair work. We will see what to do about it”, he added.
