MANGALURU: The driver and conductor of a private bus in Mangaluru have been arrested in connection with the death of a teenager who fell from the foot board of the bus on September 7.

Yashraj, son of Tyagaraj and Mamata Karkera of Ullal, fell off the moving bus on the highway near Netravati Bridge in Ullal. The bus was crowded and Yashraj was hanging on the footboard  when he fell hard to the ground. He was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru with severe head injuries. On September 13, doctors announced that he was brain dead. The family then decided to donate some of his organs.

The bus driver Karthik Shetty and conductor Damsheer were arrested by Mangaluru South Traffic Police after the teenager’s parents complained to the district deputy commissioner. The boy’s family alleged that he died due to negligence and excessive speeding of private buses.

A case under Indian Penal Code Section 304 was registered at Mangaluru South Traffic Police Station. The bus was also impounded.
