Bonded labourer, who was chained at the feet at silk factory, rescued

RAMANAGARA: The Ramanagara Town police have rescued a bonded labourer who was kept chained at the feet for nine days. The victim had taken an advance of Rs 1.50 lakh from the owner of a silk factory in Mehbub Nagar where he worked.

The labourer was identified as Wasim (24). He was chained at the feet at the work sites to prevent him from fleeing. The silk factory owner had given him Rs 1.50 lakh as advance. After taking the money, Wasin did not turn up for work for a month. Angered by this, the owner chained him up at the factory, police said.

The labourer’s legs were chained for nine days and he was made to work. The Ramanagara Town police rescued him after a tipoff. Wasim had joined the factory five months ago, police said. A case has been registered against the factory owner Syed Isam and supervisor Syed Amjad.
