BENGALURU: Buses belonging to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses have started breaking frequently in the middle of the roads amid the soaring temperatures and traffic congestion in the city.

The transport utility has been facing numerous problems with its fleet. Every day, about 4-5 buses can seen broken down in the middle of the road due to various reasons. This is causing problems not only for the bus passengers but also for the other commuting public. The traffic problem caused by the broken-down buses has now increased further and motorists complain of traffic problems.

Passengers have also expressed outrage at the BMTC for poor maintenance of its buses. A BMTC bus broke down near Corporation Circle on Sunday and the driver and conductor were seen struggling to fix the problem for about an hour. This had led to roadblocks and traffic congestion. The bus, plying on Route number 176, was going from Majestic towards Koramangala, but suddenly stopped near Corporation Circle.

Every day, at least four to five buses break down on roads, causing traffic congestion. Passengers insist that the buses should be maintained properly.

Raghavendra, one of the passengers, said, “Motorists or the public are afraid to pass around the BMTC buses, because of their poor maintenance. Sometimes, its spare parts come off on the road. If the bus stops in the middle of the road, it may create 4 km-5 km road blockage. BMTC has its own workshops, but are they facing staff shortage?, he questioned.

“Sometimes, bus passengers do not reach their destination on time due to breakdowns. Children suffer as they are not able to reach the exam centres on time. It is always better to get the buses checked before starting and ensure regular maintenance”, he suggested.
