BENGALURU: Most of people in Silicon City prefer to go by Namma Metro as it saves time, avoids the hassle of traffic jams and is safer. However, recent incidents of people jumping on to tracks for various reasons has affected timely Metro operations. Now, the BMRCL has plans to enhance safety measures to prevent people from jumping on tracks or crossing them.

Two such cases have happened in the last 15 days, which affected regular metro service. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has installed Platform Screen Doors (PSD) the Metro station near Electronics City and now it plans to call for tenders for installing PSDs at other stations too.

Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer, said the BMRCL is thinking about creating awareness about the railway tracks in the old metro stations. It has plans to install steel gates at stations where more passengers come in, like Majestic station. The BMRCL will install steel gates as an experiment based on the level of safety wherever there is a crowd in stations. In addition to this, more security personnel have been hired and steps will be taken to prevent people from standing on the Metro track, he said.
