TUMKURU: BJP workers and supporters from four taluks in the district on Sunday protested against giving the Lok Sabha ticket to former minister V Somanna.

A large number of BJP workers and leaders of Chikkanayakanahalli, Gubbi, Tiptur and Turuvekere taluk held a meeting at K B Cross in Tiptur taluk.

The protesting workers said in the meeting that Somanna has contributed nothing to Tumakuru district and hence should not be given a Lok Sabha ticket. They blocked the road to express their anger and demanded that the ticket be given to J C Madhuswamy instead of Somanna.

“If the ticket is given to V Somanna, who is a migrant to the constituency, then the BJP will lose position for sure. Somanna always launches a political attack. As a result of this, people in the district will have to suffer due to his loose talk”, BJP workers said, expressing displeasure against Somanna.

Meanwhile, the protesters shouted anti’Go back, Somanna’ slogans by holding posters, and sent a warning to the BJP leadership not to give the ticket to Somanna. They also set fire to a tyre at KB Cross Circle.

Meanwhile, a supporter of Madhuswamy created a high drama by pouring petrol on himself and insisted that the ticket should be given to the leader.
