CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is looking to make inroads in the Old Mysuru region ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls, has, in a surprise move, changed the district party president.
While Sundar was relieved of the post, G Narayanaprasad, who was district general secretary, has been elevated as president.
The party seems to have taken a gamble by dropping Sundar, who belongs to the Nayaka community which is dominant in the district, and instead, picking Narayanaprasad, a Vokkaliga. The Vokkaliga community does not have much presence in Chamarajanagar.
While the party has managed to put a lid on the leadership issue, it remains to be seen whether the gambit will pay off.
