BENGALURU: The driver of Opposition Leader R Ashoka’s escort vehicle, has committed suicide at his residence in Bapuji Nagar on Wednesday evening. The deceased was Sharunu Sharanappa Ramgol. The exact cause of taking such an extreme step is unclear. The Byatarayanapura police visited the scene and are investigating the cause of the death.
The deceased constable, Sharanappa, was a native of Kalaburagi and was working as a Head Constable in the Karnataka State Reserve Police. He was a driver for R Ashoka’s escort vehicle for the past five years. Sharanappa lived with his wife and brother at Kavika Layout in Byatarayanapura.
Sharanappa had dropped off R Ashoka after escorting him to Nice Road two days ago. His wife is Shailashree is working as a constable at Magadi Road Traffic police station. She went to work and sent his children to Kalaburagi. Sharanappa was alone at home when he ended his life.
The incident came to light when her brother returned from the college in the evening. The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital, where the post-mortem was conducted after the arrival of Sharanappa’s parents. Sharanappa’s family, including his wife and two children, is devastated by the incident. Opposition Leader R Ashoka visited the hospital and paid his respects to Sharanappa.
Ashoka said that Sharanappa was a quiet person who had been working with him for the past two years. He said that he was going to the Mantralaya another driver and expressed shock and sadness over the incident.
Sharanappa had met him during the Navratri festival and had touched his feet. He said that Sharanappa’s family was doing well, and that he was pained after hearing about his death.
