BENGALURU: The Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) held statewide protest on Monday against the Congress-led government condemning the fuel price hike. The BJP leaders sharply criticised the Congress government over the petrol price hike in Karnataka.

As part of the statewide protest, opposition leader R Ashoka, along with other BJP workers, arrived at Freedom Park in morning with a bullock cart.

The BJP state president, B Y Vijayendra, C T Ravi, Byrathi Basavaraj, Chalavadhi Narayanaswamy, Ravikumar and many other leaders participated in the protest. The leaders expressed their outrage by carrying banners and displaying placards with slogans against the state government for increasing fuel prices.

Hitting out at the Congress leadership in Karnataka seeking to target the Centre following the state government’s decision to raise VAT on petrol and diesel, the BJP state president BY Vijayendra said, “The Congress has become desperate after the Lok Sabha elections and increased the price of petrol by Rs 3 and diesel by Rs 3.5 per litre”.

He said that, they will raise their voices on behalf of people, and they will work to ensure justice to the farmers, poor, and common people of the state. “The BJP will continue to protest until the CM rolls back the decision taken by the state government. We will do roadblocks across the state on Thursday along with JD(S). This is an anti-people government, the government has no concern for the poor. The government is driving the state towards a financial crisis. If the guarantee schemes are stopped now, they know that people will revolt against them. But the BJP will not let it go, we will teach them lesson”, he said.

The BJP leaders and workers mocked the state government with a funeral procession by carrying a bier on their shoulders to symbolise the government as a corpse, and the protesters shouted ‘Govinda’ against the chief minister and deputy chief minister.

Opposition leader R Ashoka, CT Ravi and other leaders were detained by police when they tried to gherao the CM’s residence with the bullock cart and block the road.
