Biker dies after tree falls on him in Udupi

UDUPI: Heavy rain in the district over the last few days has claimed yet another victim. A biker died after a huge banyan tree fell on him due to heavy wind and rain in Belman area of Karkala taluk. The deceased has been identified as Praveen Acharya.

Praveen Acharya was travelling on his two-wheeler when a huge tree fell on him. Other buildings, including electricity pole, were also damaged. The scene of the tree falling was captured on CCTV camera.

Praveen, who suffered injuries in the incident, was immediately admitted to a local hospital, but did not respond to treatment.

Earlier, Diwakar Shetty, a cashier at a hotel, was washed away while returning home after work at night. Also, Sheshadri Aital, a senior priest of Kamalashile temple in Kundapur taluk drowned while he was crossing a bridge built across the Kubja river. He was trapped while he was coming to the temple for worship.
