Bihar native, who attempted to rape 5-year-old and killed her, shot at in Hubballi, dies in hospital

HUBBALLI: Hours after a Bihar native killed a five-year-old girl after allegedly attempting to rape her in a dilapidated shed here on Sunday, the Ashok Nagar police shot at the accused who later succumbed to his injuries at KIMS Hospital. In the encounter, a woman police sub-inspector and two male police constables were also injured.

Hubballi Police Commissioner N Shashikumar visited the hospital and checked on the condition of the injured police personnel. Later, speaking to the media, he said a special team had been formed to trace the accused who had escaped after committing the crime.

Earlier in the day, he had said, “A 5-year-old girl was found in one of the abandoned buildings in Ashok Nagar police station limits. She was shifted to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. We have taken up the complaint of the girl’s parents and legal action will be taken. The girl’s mother works as a housemaid and while she had gone to work, girl went missing. Residents of the locality staged a protest outside Ashok Nagar Police station. Once the identity of the accused is established, we will take necessary action”.

The accused, a Bihar native, allegedly attempted to rape and murdered a five-year-old girl in Ashoknagar police station area here. The accused, reportedly from Bihar, lured the girl into a shed and tried to assault her. When locals heard the girl’s screams and approached the shed, the accused strangled her to death and fled the scene. The girl’s parents, who are labourers from Koppal, have lodged a complaint with the police and staged a protest outside the Ashok Nagar police station demanding strict action against the accused.
