Bihar man attempts to rape, kills 5-year-old girl in Hubballi; Locals stage protest

HUBBALLI: A man allegedly attempted to rape and murdered a five-year-old girl in Ashoknagar police station area here. The accused, reportedly from Bihar, lured the girl into a shed and tried to assault her. When locals heard the girl’s screams and approached the shed, the accused strangled her to death and fled the scene.

 The girl’s parents, who are labourers from Koppal, have lodged a complaint with the police and staged a protest outside the Ashoknagar police station demanding strict action against the accused. Police Commissioner N Shashikumar engaged with the protesters to control the situation.

According to the police commissioner, the police are looking into the accused’s background and the nature of his actions towards the girl. The girl’s mother had taken her to the workplace, and the accused took advantage of the moment when the mother was busy inside the house. He firstly lured the girl who was playing outside the house. He was keep hatching a plot to kidnap her. Then, after a while, he again came and picked her up from the compound, though the gate was open. He took her away to a shed and the girl’s body was found in a dilapidated, abandoned shed.

The police commissioner said further investigation, including medical examination, is required to confirm whether there was rape. He has assured that strict action will be taken once the complaint is registered.
