BENGALURU: Several government departments and agencies owe power dues running into thousands of crores, putting the Energy Department in a fix.
Every year, these departments and agencies seek power on credit from the electricity supply companies (Escoms) and have run up dues of Rs 6,670 crore so far. As per the data, the dues stood at Rs 5,530 crore as on April 1, 2021.
The biggest defaulter is the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, which owes Rs 4,724.34 crore.
