BIDAR: In a major operation, the police have seized PDS rice worth over Rs 1 crore which was being illegally transported to other states over the last three days.
The illegal transportation had been going on rampantly through Khatak Chincholi in Bhalki taluk, Mannaekhalli, Halliked, Basavakalyan, Humnabad and other parts of the district.
According to the police, the PDS rice was being purchased at low prices in the district and sold in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and other states at higher prices.
The total value of the seized rice is Rs 1.34 crore. Apart from PDS rice, the illegal trade also included fortified rice that is supplied to children studying in anganwadis, the police said.
