A young lineman Goutham (32) electrocuted in Magadi road while repairing transformer.

BENGALURU: A lineman with the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) was electrocuted while carrying out repair work on a transformer in Gopalpura area on Magadi Road on Monday.

Locals rushed him to a hospital immediately in a critical state, but he died without responding to treatment. The deceased has been identified as Gautham (32).

Gautham’s father Rangaswamy has lodged a complaint against Bescom engineers, alleging negligence on their part. It is said that Gautham was to be engaged soon, but the date had not yet been fixed.

The Gautham’s family members grieve outside the hospital before the post-mortem examination was conducted.

Rangaswamy claimed, “He was on night shift and working at 9 am. No precautionary measures were taken during work and he lost life because of Bescom engineers’ negligence. It is a murder and some people intended to kill him. As per the information I received, the incident occurred because an officer ordered switching off power on the wrong electric line”.

The father also demanded that the authorities concerned conduct a detailed probe and take stern against those responsible for Gautham’s death.

Gowtham’s sister Shilpa claimed, “None of the Bescom officials have taken responsibility about his safety. No one came to the hospital to see him. I don’t know how this happened. His legs were completely burnt, but the officers did not tell us about the serious condition my brother as in. They keep saying that he will recover. It nothing but negligence of the officers. He is been serving in Bescom since the last four years. He had sustained injuries after getting electrocuted last year also and had shared his fear with our mother about working with Bescom”.

The post-mortem procedure was held at Victoria hospital and the body was later handed over to the family.
