Skywalk on Kempe Gowda road

BENGALURU: Bengaluru’s first skywalk on Kempe Gowda Road, in the heart of the city, lies in a dilapidated condition without any maintenance by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The Palike had promised two years ago that the old, crumbling structure will be taken down and a new one built, but nothing has been done so far.

Motorists and two-wheeler riders fear that parts of the structure could fall on then when moving under the weakened skywalk and citizens have demanded that the BBMP pay immediate attention to it.

Nanjegowda, a social activist complained KG Road is the main thoroughfare to reach MAjestic bus stand and one of the busiest roadS. “The BBMP issued a notice not to use THE skywalk as it has become weak and it will be opened to public only after renovation. But the promise has remained unfulfilled. Are they playing with people’s lives?” he questioned.

“If anything untoward happens on K G Road, the BBMP should held the responsible. They shouldn’t be playing with people’s life and take it as serious issue. Work on renovation of the skywalk should start without further delay”, Nanjegowda insisted.

Vishwanth, a commuter, said, “The BBMP itself warned the public that not to be use skywalk because of its pathetic condition. But they did not even touch it. What the civic body is waiting for? Are they waiting for it to collapse by itself, for people to be injured, or waiting for happening some untoward to happen here. The Palike should take immediate action. If not, it will pay a heavy price in the coming days”.
