BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Commercial Trucks Association owners have called for a bandh on March 17 to protest against the ban on the movement of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and freight vehicles in the city during peak hours.
The protest was held against the restriction on entry of goods vehicles into the city during peak hour. The bandh was called after a meeting of the members of the truckers’ association with Special Commissioner (Traffic) M A Salim failed. Speaking to Public TV after the meeting, R Shanmugappa, president of the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Association, pointed out that commercial vehicles transport vegetables, medicines, chicken, daily use items, and consignments of e-commerce companies.
“The police department has banned the movement of commercial vehicles during peak hours. But it is difficult for us to transport one good from one place to another. We had a discussion with a special commissioner for traffic, but the authorities did not agree to our demands. Hence, we have called for a bundh on March 17. We have requested them many times, but we have not got any answer”, said R Shanmugappa, the president of the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Association.
